We are very excited about our brand new Thula Haven Mamas group. We started a small group for pregnant woman in a local settlement, Golden Valley in George. During our first session we introduced the program to them, which was developed to educated these women about the phases of pregnancy, to teach them about the harms of substance abuse while pregnant and the importance of nutrition during pregnancy.
They were all very excited and motivated about the program, but the challenge was to keep them engaged and have an incentive for them to keep showing up.
We created a currency, called “crowns” that can be used as money to buy clothes and baby products that was donated to Thula Baba Haven (NPO). They have a few weeks to complete small tasks, like starting a veggie garden, eating a healthy meal every day, encourage one another etc.
